The Project
This 2005 Pontiac GTO is officially the Quickest Naturally Aspirated Late-Model GTO in the World, clocking a devastating 9.959-second pass at 134.8 mph down the quarter-mile. Anchored by a hand-built Modern Muscle 500 cubic inch Gen IV LSX tall-deck stroker engine, every millimeter of this vehicle was engineered to maximize high-RPM airflow and eliminate mechanical parasitic loss. Translating this power into single-digit track times meant throwing out the factory floor plan—we mini-tubbed the chassis to swallow ultra-sticky Mickey Thompson tires, swapped in an FTI TH400 racing transmission, and protected the cockpit with an 8.50 NHRA-certified safety cell.
